About the GradStaff Interview

interview tie

Our goal is to help the grad find a career opportunity that is a perfect match for their skills, attributes and career interests.  Our staffing model was designed based on research in the field of behavioral science at the University of Minnesota.  In essence, this research predicts a direct correlation between the success we have in our careers and the skills and attributes we possess as individuals compared to the skills and attributes required by the jobs we do.  If we find jobs that take advantage of our strengths, we should enjoy the work, perform well, and achieve career growth.

Our interview process involves three key steps:

  1. Behavioral-based interview – In this part of the interview, we assess transferrable skills like problem solving, time management, leadership, the ability to communicate and many others.  There are no right or wrong answers.  Typically, candidates will have strengths in three or four areas that have value in the workplace.
  2. Career Exploration – In this phase of the interview, we investigate prior internships, summer jobs, volunteer work, extracurricular activities and many other things to identify what type of career opportunity would be a fit for you.  We take into account functional interests, cultural preferences, compensation requirements, preferred supervisory approach, etc.  We also learn more about the candidate's current job search.
  3. Coaching and Feedback – As we complete the interview, we provide feedback that we think can be helpful.  This could include ideas to strengthen a resume, tips to improve interviewing, or ways to enhance the job search.
  4. Answering Your Questions – Most candidates are hungry for help in their job search; we’re here to help, so come prepared to let us help.

Our objective is to understand each candidate's skills, attributes, and motivations.  We won’t leave the table until we know the recent grad, what they can do, and what they want.

Our goal is to send candidates on interviews for which they are ideally suited.  Furthermore, because we are so confident in our matching methodology, we rarely present more than two candidates for the same position so competition is at a minimum.  In many cases, we present such good candidates that the client ends up hiring both!
